Guest Editorial
"Cape Town is paradise
" is probably what many Londoners
would say, in between the curtain of fog, and walls of rain, when
asked about South Africa's mother city. With me it's somewhat different:
when the famous 'Cape Coma' comes along, it's off to London, my
ticket to inspiration and fresh energy. No other city is as vibrant
and innovative - or so alive - and nowhere in the world is rain
so stylish. Especially during the pre-Christmas season when London
reveals an enormous charm which no hectic hustle and bustle can
spoil. More than 6,000 restaurants alone present an unforgettable
display of the world's cooking styles. The best burgers at Sticky
Fingers, delicious Turkish Delight at Chintamani, and all the all-English
diet of Fish and Chips is nowhere to be better found than wrapped
in newspaper at Olley's Fish Experience.
After a stroll along New Bond Street I enjoy a platter of oysters
at Wiltons, and before night-time descends upon the City I take
a drink at 'Les Trois Garcons', admire the mounted and jewelled
African hunting trophies on the walls - and enjoy a rare moment
of homesickness.
However, it is not only the many restaurants, bars and nightclubs
which entice me to the first city of England. For me as a 'Classic
Driver', London also interests me as the 'Carwalk Capital', the
most exciting car metropolis in the world. If you want to belong
to the set, the vintage Rolex and the pink Smythsons address book
alone will not do. The keys to an Aston Martin DB9, Bentley Continental
GT, or even a grand sports car of days gone by will certainly help.
This Newsletter Special is to give an overall insight into the elegant,
glamorous and unique spheres of the British capital. Between 'Traditional
London Style' and 'Cool Britannia' it shows you where to eat, drink,
shop and rest; the very best. Enjoy reading and trying! This is
more 'Classic Driver' than ever
With sunny regards from Cape Town.
Sincerely,
Jürgen Hasse
