We do like bringing you fantastic rare handbuilt vehicles at great prices and this is no exception! It is a 1983 Bristol Brigand. The Brigand is the Turbocharged version of the Britannia and is a very rare car indeed.

It is an Automatic car fitted with Air Conditioning and is Metallic Blue with Grey Leather interior. It has a long MOT and is ready for its next proud owner.

The first Bristol car, the 1947 Bristol 400, was heavily based on pre-WW2 BMWs. The body looked very like the BMW 327, while its engine and suspension were also based on BMW designs. Even the famous double-kidney grille was carried over onto the Bristol.

Bristol cars used the same, 6 cylinder, BMW based engine up until 196. This very well regarded engine also powered a number of sports and racing cars, including all post-war Frazer Nash cars (apart from a few prototypes), some AC's, some Lotus and Cooper racing cars, and several others. However, in 1961 Bristol Cars launched the 407, which was powered by a Chrysler V8 engines, which were more suitable for the increasingly heavy cars. All post-1961 Bristol's including the current Blenheim and Fighter models continue to use Chrysler engines.

From 1960, the company was owned by former racing driver Tony Crook, who took over the share of his partner Sir George White in 1973. In 1997, Toby Silverton came on board, which explains the greater level of development in recent years (particularly, the new Bristol Fighter). Tony Crook eventually sold the company to Silverton in 2001.

The third series of 603, introduced in 1982 and continuing until 1994, saw Bristol adopt the names of famous Bristol Aeroplanes for its cars. With this series of 603, known as Britannia and Brigand. The model came with a smaller radiator grille and more modern rear vision mirrors. The tail-lights were also mounted directly vertically, whereas on previous versions of the 603 the reversing lights were separate from the rear turn indicators and brake lights.

Our car is finished in Grey Leather and it is in very good condition. It is a wonderfully luxurious place to sit with acres of leather everywhere! The seats are showing signs of wear commensurate with the mileage and the rear parcel shelf is a bit scruffy. The headlining needs attention at the back. All the dials and instrruments work as they should but the Aircon would benefit from attention or re-gassing.

Our car is finished in Metallic Blue and the paintwork leaves a little to be desired, it really would benefit from a respray as there is microblistering on most panels and localised bubbling in some areas. The wheels and tyres are all good as is the glass.

Our car has a Bristol service history until 1992 but not much since then although the car has not covered much mileage. Everything works as it should, the engine pulls strongly and the gearbox changes smoothly. The car is showing 75,000 miles but we have no idea if this in the genuine total from new as we do not have a large history folder with invoices from new.

This is a wonderful handbuilt luxury car in an extremely useable condition, the colours are great and it is Mot'd and ready for its next owner. The previous owner bought it from Bristol Cars in 1993 and he was only the second owner, and we can think of no better recommendation. This is a scruffy car that you can drive away and gradually improve as you choose, This is a late model Bristol with a low mileage, a very useable and practical proposition. Please be quick at this price!
