Description

Registration number: DZ-12-16

We continue to think these are very cool cars, and they are great for touring and rally purposes. After the well-known T-series from MG, a successor had to be created. The MGA fulfilled this new role like no other, and the MGA's styling was therefore completely in line with the times. First, the MGA had a rigid chassis with the Austin-designed, 1,489cc B-Series engine that first appeared in the ZA Magnette, remember that one?

The MGA based the suspension on the TF, with independent front suspension and a rigid rear axle. The aerodynamic bodywork did a lot of good for the MGA in terms of performance. The MGA was able to reach just under 160 km/h. And yes, sales did well. In the first year of production, MG already sold more than 10,000 examples.

Despite its immense popularity, the MGA faced stiff competition from the Austin-Healey 100/6 and the Triumph TR3, both of which had larger engines. The engineers continued to get more power from the MGA engine. The use of a cylinder head with double overhead camshaft, in 1958, gave the MGA an impressive power of 108 hp. As a result, the Twin Cam was significantly faster than the standard MGA and was now able to travel at 175 km/h in absolute comfort. Naturally, more power from an engine also requires more from the car and in this way, MG Dunlop applied disc brakes. MG only made 2,111 examples of the Twin Cam version; rare as hen’s teeth.

Our MGA Twin Cam is a beautiful example, one of 2,111 examples ever produced, and neatly presents itself in the classic British Racing Green with dark green interior. In the late 1990s, this example was thoroughly overhauled and subsequently underwent a body-off restoration and overhaul work. This work makes it a very nice example in good condition.

First, the exterior. The paint is of good quality, shines nicely and the British Racing Green gives this MG the ultimate classic feeling. The chrome work, such as the bumpers, mirrors and headlight rings, still look good. The fits of the various body parts are also good. The underside of this MGA can be described as neat.

When we take a seat in the interior, we can conclude that the whole interior looks beautiful. The lovely seats have leather upholstery of good quality, and the carpets are neat. The nice dashboard, together with the wooden steering wheel and the instruments, are also in good condition.

Under the hood we find the correct details and everything is in neat condition too.

The Twin Cam engine runs very nicely and has more than enough power on board for sporty performance. This makes this example extremely suitable for participation in various rallies. The bucket seats, together with the 15-inch knock-off steel wheels, also contribute to this. The clutch pedal is easy to operate. The brake pedal feels good, and the steering feel is excellent. We feel exactly what is happening.
