Description

The Mustang is a symbol of times gone by and of unparalleled freedom, a time before iPad sized screens in dashboards. The Mustang’s formula was simple, offering unrivalled performance, at an unusually affordable price to everyone. The people’s performance car, embodying the spirit of its namesake, the Mustang is the automotive embodiment of Freedom.

The model was first introduced in the mid-1960s, it quickly became a success, on the forecourt, as well as the racetrack. It would have to wait for its next history-making opportunity.

In 1968 the Mustang was forever etched into the annals of movie history by the release of Bullitt. Steve McQueen, arguably the coolest man in the world, was seen hurling his Highland Green Mustang Fastback, through the busy streets of San Francisco, chasing down a black Dodge Charger. The result of which is still impacting Mustang production today, over 50 years later.

This example is a 1967 model, a genuine example of a C-Code V8 equipped Fastback. Originally supplied in Springtime Yellow, to the Charlotte district sales office, as confirmed by a Marti Report. The car was repainted to an extremely high standard in “Bullitt-Spec” of Highland Green. The paint itself is in excellent condition, with a deep lustre and generous protection thanks to a recent ceramic coating application.

The five-spoke American Racing “Torque Thrust” wheels are finished in a satin-black complemented by a silver lip, as per the Bullitt movie car. There are no marks, or scratches and they’re wrapped in a full set of matching tyres. The exterior is complemented by a series of Bullitt correct styling tweaks, a blacked out rear light panel and light surrounds, front grille, colour coded side trims and a turn-signal bonnet and a flip open fuel filler. The upgrade paintwork totalled a cost of £2,500.

Step inside and you’re greeted by black factory bucket seats, an original option for the car. The dashboard benefits from a time clock, and some additional summit racing gauges to monitor the engine. The car retains its original thin rimmed black steering wheel, which is accented by chrome trims and a mustang branded centre. For added safety, this Mustang is fitted with a full set of front and rear seat belts.

Under the turn-signal bonnet, you’ll find a 289-ci V8 mated to a C4 automatic transmission, everything in the engine bay is clean and tidy, with no signs of any accident damage or nasty repairs. There are a few upgrades, a set of chrome rocker covers and a chrome air cleaner, tidy up the engine bay, and a “Monte-Carlo” bar helps to stiffen up the whole chassis. The engine breathes through a new dual exit exhaust system, offering drivers and passers by an enviable soundtrack.

In the engine bay, you’ll also find a Borgerson power steering kit has been fitted, meaning despite the Mustang’s age, and size, it's incredibly easy to drive and manoeuvre. Ideal for a weekend cruise through the British countryside or even prowling through city streets thanks to its ULEZ and tax exemptions.

Owning a Mustang is not about owning a car, it's buying into an experience, a lifestyle. Any car can take you from A-to-B, but driving in a Mustang will make you want to drive to C first, just to enjoy the drive more. This could be the perfect example, thanks to its high quality paintwork, Bullitt upgrades and power steering.

As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
