Description

  • Offered from The 20th Century Collection
  • Desirable Series III model, built from 1973 to 1978
  • Left-hand-drive model specified for first registration in the United States
  • Powered by a 5.3-litre V-8 mated to an automatic gearbox
  • An ideal basis for a restoration project

While the Aston Martin V8 was presented as a “new” model upon its introduction in 1972, the sleek coupé shared the underpinnings of the earlier DBS V8. The acquisition of Aston Martin by William Willson’s Company Developments forced an early rebrand of the model, subsequently marketed simply as the Aston Martin V8 until the Series III entered production in 1973. Some 967 examples of the Series III were built over a five-year run, earning a reputation for striking styling from designer William ‘Bill’ Towns that fused American muscle with British elegance.

The 5.3-litre V-8 at the heart of the Aston Martin V8 Series III breathed through downdraft Weber carburettors, with their presence notably marked by the model’s prominent bonnet scoop that feeds air into the engine bay.

This Aston Martin V8 Series III was built on 19 March 1976 with left-hand-drive steering and an automatic gearbox. Destined for the US market, it was despatched on 29 March, with the body finished in the striking colour combination of Royal Claret Metallic over a Fawn Connolly leather interior. This vehicle featured Weber carburettors, an automatic gearbox, Avon tyres, Sandringham Beige carpet, and Coolair air conditioning.

Little is known of this vehicle’s history, other than a 1986 Texas registration slip on the windscreen hinting at its past in the US. Sometime in the 2000s, this Aston Martin was acquired by a Kuwaiti collector and exported. It has since remained in dry storage and will require restoration prior to returning to the road. Today, the bodywork sports red paint, over a cream leather interior.

As a desirable carburetted US-specification Series III, this Aston Martin provides an exciting opportunity to acquire an interesting restoration project that deserves to be returned to the open roads under the care of a new owner.
