Description

The Alfasud, which made its debut at the 1971 Turin Show, was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, as might be expected from its linear styling. It was a hit for its time, with outstanding features such as a longitudinally opposed four-cylinder 1,286 cc engine, four-wheel disc brakes (front inboard), a compact but roomy interior for four adults, a large boot capacity and handling performance that was highly regarded for a FF car. It was a hit. The 'Sprint' was introduced in 1976 (with a 1,286 cc engine), and in 1978 the exterior and technical aspects were updated. Two engine variants were offered: a 1.3-litre model with 79 hp and a 1.5-litre model with 85 hp (the former for the Italian market, the latter for export). Exterior additions include wing mirrors and a pretty four-leaf clover ornament on the C-pillar. The side markers changed from round to square at the same time. A year later, in 1979, the engine was updated again and became the Sprint Veloce. Double twin choke carburettors and a higher compression ratio increased engine output to 86 hp for the 1.3-litre model and 95 hp for the 1.5-litre model. The 1.5-litre model has an announced top speed of 175 km/h.

The car presented here is a rare Sprint 1.5 Veloce. Although many Alfasuds were produced in large numbers, rust on the body, which was said to "melt" when the car was new, has been cited as a problem, and there are only a few of them still in existence in clean condition. As you can see from the photos, there is not a single trace of rust on this car, and it would be difficult to find another Sud in such good condition anywhere in the world. The reupholstered seats are a combination of Recaro seats with chequered and brown vinyl leather, creating a fashionable and unique Sud. The engine system has also been well looked after, with engine and transmission OH, new dampers, ANSA muffler and Campagnolo wheels in 2021. Enjoy the Alfa Sud to the fullest, from everyday use to event use.
