This Mallard Green Ford Escort RS Cosworth is ready to play duck, duck, boost!

Oldtimer Galerie Toffen’s upcoming Classic Car Auction in Gstaad on December 29th isn’t short on dream rides, but this Ford Escort RS Cosworth immediately caught our eye.

Like many other 1990s performance heroes, the Ford Escort RS Cosworth seems to be ripening with age. Not only do we love the design — especially that comically large rear wing — but this homologation special seems to have found favour among motoring celebrities too. Jeremy Clarkson owned one he named ‘Gary’ back in the day, in Mallard Green no less, and the late, great Ken Block campaigned his own RS Cosworth on the world’s rally stages not too long ago. Now, you could add your name to this elite crew of Cossie custodians as this glorious 1993 Ford Escort RS Cosworth crosses the auction block at Oldtimer Galerie Toffen’s upcoming Classic Car Auction in Gstaad on December 29th

Designed to compete in the World Rally Championship’s Group A category, the RS Cosworth features a longitudinally-mounted  inline four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine fitted with one sizeable turbo. Capable of 220hp, only 2,500 of these race-bred machines were built, but the examples delivered new to Switzerland like this one unfortunately had their spoilers plucked due to local regulations. However, in 2015, this example was purchased by its second and current owner, who wasn’t about to miss out on one of the greatest aspects of these cars, and they swiftly installed an appropriately massive Eggenberger-Motorsport roof spoiler.

Today the car shows less than 20,000 kilometres on the clock and remains in near factory-fresh condition. Mallard Green is easily our favourite of the RS Cosworth’s factory shades, and finding one in such an outstanding state of preservation is very rare indeed, so if you want one of the 1990s’ greatest homologation specials, look no further!
