A splendid smorgasbord from Worldwide Auctioneers in Scottsdale

On 16 January, Worldwide Auctioneers will kick off its year with The Scottsdale Auction in Arizona, which comprises 71 collector cars ranging from quirky oldtimers and Americana to post-War Italian royalty and certified modern classics. These are our favourites…

As a signal of intent for the coming year, Worldwide Auctioneers’ first sale of 2019 is certainly a serious one. And there’s truly something for everyone. Looking for a rare modern classic in which to invest? Surely the 2003 BMW 540 showing just 2,135 miles on the clock and fitted with the rare M Sport package (est. 50,000–70,000 US dollars) is a great place to start? Or how about sampling the American Dream with the ultra-significant Chevrolet Corvette L88 (590,000–640,000 dollars), one of just 116 examples built in 1969?

Potential Tour Auto entrants should look no further than the delightful 1959 Fiat-Abarth 750 GT Coupé (125,000–150,000 dollars) with its signature Zagato ‘double bubble’ and period Tour de France Automobile history. And we’d simply love to prowl the streets of London or Los Angeles with the beautifully restored Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Coupé, finished in an oh-so-1970s shade of brown (120,000–140,000 dollars). Spearheading the catalogue is a genuinely significant 1925 Bugatti Type 35A with an impressive competition career, including the 1926 Provence Grand Prix and, more recently, the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca in 2009. It’s estimated accordingly at 1.9–2.4m dollars. You can find our 10 favourites from the sale listed below or, alternatively, browse the entire catalogue in the Classic Driver Market
