Bugatti was one of the finest car manufacturers of the 1920's and 1930's, but after the death of founder Ettore Bugatti in 1947, the company ceased production. In an attempt to revive Bugatti, Italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli acquired the rights to the legendary name and in 1989 he announced its return. No expense was spared in designing the new Bugatti which was to be produced at a new state of the art factory constructed north of Modena in Italy. Launched in 1991 on the day of what would have been Ettore Bugatti's 110th birthday the new car was aptly named the 'EB 110' and was designed by Marcello Gandini, the man responsible for the Lamborghini Countach and Lancia Stratos among many other famous sporting cars. Bristling with many unique design features, it had a body of aluminium that was bonded to a carbon fibre monocoque. In fact the EB 110 was the first production sports car to use a monocoque of this construction, this complicated fabrication was actually undertaken by French aviation company, Aerospatiale. At its heart is one of the most complex engines ever constructed to power a supercar. A 60 degree 3.5 litre V12 engine, with dual overhead camshafts operating five valves per cylinder, a set up normally confined to contemporary F1 Ferrari's. Performance was enhanced by the fitment of no less than four turbo chargers, giving the EB110 a power out-put of 610 bhp, enough to propel the car to a top speed of 218 mph with a 0 to 60 mph of just 4.3 seconds! All this was mated to a six speed gearbox that governed a four wheel drive system that delivered 27% of the power to the front wheels and the other 73% to the rear. Fortunately stopping power was provided by large ventilated Brembo discs and ABS. In all, a very potent package beautifully clothed. It is estimated that some 126 cars were produced before the world economy took its toll on this and other super cars of the era, however the cars remain a fascinating insight to the demand for sports car of this calibre and perhaps it is the EB110 that will prevail as the leading exponent of the cutting edge technology of this time. This very well presented example, 1 of only 35 SS models built, came off the production line in 1995. The SS models were lighter and more powerful than the standard GT car. This car is described as in exceptionally good condition and comes with a full service history, 18" super sport alloys, motorized rear spoiler and over 600 bhp make for an exciting package. This rare and very exotic Bugatti is finished in its original colour of silver with a grey interior and blue carpets and has been maintained to the highest standards. It remains one of the finest examples currently on offer.
