Beschreibung

The 280SL roadster traces its roots back to the 1963 Geneva Motor show, where Mercedes-Benz introduced the all new car , code named W113, starting with the 230SL. It replaced both the famous 300SL and the more
modest 190SL .
The new model didn’t come empty handed . It offered in-line fuel injected
6 cylinders, bonnet/bootlid/doorskins in aluminum , power brakes, excellent suspension and a short and wide chassis enhancing perfect handling. It was also the first sports car with a “ safety body” with impact absorbing sections.
The design was absolutely timeless elegance and that’s still the case today . No wonder that, at the international Geneva Motorshow , the W113 captured the hearts of many car enthousiasts, worldwide .
The model range started with the 230SL (1963-1969) , with a 2,3L engine ,
producing 148 bhp and 196 Nm of torque and a 4speed manuel or 4 speed automatic gearbox. About 19.800 230SL were built . The 250SL (1966-1968) was next in line. It had stiffer suspension , rear disc brakes and a 2,5L
engine with the same bhp output but with a higher torque of 216 Nm, giving the car a sportier feel. About 5200 were built before the 280SL came to the market from 1967 till 1971. The final model had a 2,8L engine with a 168 bhp
output and an impressive torque of 244Nm . That was adequate enough to transform the roadster from a sports car to a real Grand Tourer . A total of almost 24000 were built , proving the popularity of the iconic 280SL.

This 280SL, an European model , was delivered in the original colors of dark blue over a cognac beige interior with a manual gearbox , exactly as it is today and was first registered in June 1969 . It retains still the original engine and drivetrain. Not much is known about its early history and according to the last Belgian owner , who acquired the car in 2021 , it spent most of its time in Germany. Already restored by a fellow citizen in 2008/2009 , it changed hands in 2010 to the last German owner. It then spent 2 years in the Netherlands before coming to Belgium , where it received a full service before it was added to a small collection of German cars and was enjoyed , flawlessly, on a few long summer trips . The beautiful roadster , even being an older restoration , is still in very good condition , optically and technically , proving not only the high quality of the restoration but also the meticulous attention and service from its previous owners. The 280 SL pulls strong , drives and handles well , like a real Mercedes , and can be enjoyed , either to drive daily around town and to get you to your local supermarket or , even better, to cruise to and along the French Riviera . On top of that , due to family circumstances , it is priced very competitive.
We have the car in our showroom in Belgium . Visit and inspection after appointment only .
