Huh…? An ordinary Alfa Romeo 147 in our showroom?

No, that’s not it. You are used to it we only offer rare cars, and of course, we like to stick to that. What is so special about this Alfa? Well, it’s actually the famous wolf in sheep’s clothing. While the regular 147 often is fitted with a 4-cylinder 1.6 engine, the ‘Alfa Romeo ingegneri’ were tasked at the time to go way beyond their limits. They had done that before with the 156, and now it was the 147’s turn. Thus, what many consider the Milanese manufacturer’s best and most beautiful engine: the V-6 3.2 liter 24 valve, was placed in the front of the 147. In order to get the high power of no less than 250 hp on the road, brakes, suspension and the body were of course modified. The appearance of the car has not been noticeably changed at all, but that is part of the fun. No frills with large spoilers and cooling gaps and grille’s. No, just a much wider, but extremely civilized body was made. One who has no knowledge about cars will not notice the difference with the ‘standard version’ at first sight. The enthusiast knows better. And that was exactly the intention. Mission of the designers and engineers accomplished.

As was often the case in the past with front-wheel drivecars, they had often a problem to get all the power on the road. Alfa Romeo had, and still has, a reputation to uphold in terms of power and handling, and with the 147 GTA it has very well succeeded in finding an excellent balance in which comfort, traction, road holding and easy way of operation do not make each other’s lives miserable. but work together in an excellent way to please the passionate driver of this beautiful and exclusive car. By the way, the name GTA is a bit strange, because to talk about a Gran Turismo Alleggerita (alleggerita is the Italian word for “made lighter”) is perhaps a bit of an exaggeration. But hey, they’re still Italians, right? Beautiful people. No lightweight carbon fiber or aluminum was used, and with the aluminum V6 under the hood, the total weight is 1335 kg. Nowadays that could have been 100 kg less. Well, we just have to make deal with it. And that’s no punishment because the 3196 cc V-6 not only delivers 250 hp, but also an enormous torque of 300 Nm at 4800 rpm. All ingredients are present to set the car in motion via a very smoothly and precisely shifting 6-speed manual gearbox. There was also a Selespeed version available, a robotized gearbox, but that is not the car that enthusiasts want. We want to switch gears ourselves, and not let a slow-working system do it.

From the very nice black leather upholstered, comfort-sports seats and a view of a rich instrumentation, the sporty driver really lacks nothing. The term Gran Turismo fits the 147 GTA perfectly, because it is really a car to travel long distances. But on the way to Italy, for example, take a mountain road because this is where the car really feels at home. The car will reward you like a young dog taking off its leash: all emotions and tensions will erupt until you offer it another treat. For the GTA this will probably have to be a petrol pump.

We can take beautiful photos, perhaps even better a video, but truly conveying emotion is only possible when you have the opportunity, or actually the luck, to view and drive a car like this newly arrived GTA in real life. Of course, driving also gives us enormous satisfaction, but perhaps the thrill of finding such a special car is even greater for us as enthusiasts and traders. For ourselves, but especially to give a new owner enormous pleasure with it. A new owner who is looking for a compact, high-powered, perfectly maintained, special and good investment Alfa Romeo, has found it now.

Because it comes from Sweden, where it was one of only 13 147 GTA’s delivered, straight from the heated garage of the third owner, sublimely maintained, built in 2005 and only 87.700 on the odometer, completely in the first paint called Azzurro Gabbiano , and recently fitted with a new timing belt / waterpump etc., all booklets and invoices available, this GTA is completely ready to be pampered by the next owner.

The Swedish owner went a little further and installed red silicone hoses and fuel lines under the hood. 🇳🇱Huh…? Een doodgewone Alfa Romeo 147 in onze showroom?

Nee, dat is het niet. Doodgewone auto’s bent u niet van ons gewend, en daar houden we ons natuurlijk graag aan. Wat is er dan zo bijzonder aan deze Alfa? Nou, het is eigenlijk de bekende wolf in schaapskleren. Waar de gewone huis en tuin 147 het veelal moet doen met een 4-cilinder 1.6 motor, hebben de ’Alfa Romeo ingegneri’ destijds de opdracht gekregen eens flink buiten hun boekje te gaan. Dat hadden ze al eens eerder gedaan met de 156, en nu was de 147 aan de beurt. Aldus werd de volgens velen beste en mooiste motor van de Milanese fabrikant: de V-6 3.2 liter 24 klepper, in het vooronder van de 147 gelepeld. Om het hoge vermogen van maar liefst 250 pk op de weg te kunnen krijgen werden natuurlijk remmen, ophanging en de body aangepast Het uiterlijk van de auto is helemaal niet opvallend gewijzigd, maar dat is nou juist het leuke. Geen opsmuk van grote spoilers en koelgaten. Nee, er werd gewoon een stuk bredere, maar uiterst beschaafde body gemaakt. De leek zal het verschil met de ‘standaard uitvoering’ in eerste instantie helemaal niet opmerken. De liefhebber weet wel beter. En dat was nou net de bedoeling. Missie van de ontwerpers en ingenieurs dus geslaagd.

Zoals vaak het geval was in het verleden bij voorwielaandrijvers, had men dikwijls problemen met veel vermogen op de weg te brengen. Alfa Romeo had, en heeft nog steeds, een naam hoog te hoog te houden qua vermogen en wegligging , en is er bij de 147 GTA zeer goed in geslaagd een uitstekende balans te vinden waarbij comfort, tractie, wegligging en bedieningsgemak elkaar het leven niet zuur maken, maar op voortreffelijke wijze samenwerken om de gepassioneerde bestuurder van al dit moois en exclusiefs te behagen. Overigens is de naam GTA wel wat vreemd, want om nu direct te spreken over een Gran Turismo Alleggerita (alleggerita is de Italiaanse term voor “lichter gemaakt”) is misschien wel een beetje overdreven. Maar ja, het blijven nu eenmaal Italianen hé? Mooi volk. Er kwam geen lichtgewicht koolstofvezel of aluminium aan te pas, en met de overigens wel van aluminium gemaakte dikke V6 onder de motorkap, komt het totaalgewicht op 1335 kg. Dat had tegenwoordig wel een 100 kg minder kunnen zijn. We moeten het er maar mee doen. En dat is geen straf want de 3196 cc V-6 levert niet alleen 250 pk, maar ook een enorm koppel van 300 Nm bij 4800 t/min. Alle ingrediënten zijn dus aanwezig om via een zeer soepel en precies schakelende 6- versnellingsbak de auto in beweging te zetten. Overigens was er ook een Selespeed versie leverbaar met gerobotiseerde versnellingsbak, maar dat is niet de auto die de liefhebber wil. We willen zelf schakelen, en dat niet een traag werkend systeem laten doen.

Vanuit heel fijne met zwart leder bekleedde, comfort sportstoelen, en zicht op een rijk instrumentarium ontbreekt het de sportieve automobilist werkelijk aan niets. De term Gran Turismo past de 147 GTA wel perfect, want het is echt een auto om lange afstanden mee te overbruggen. Maar op weg naar bijvoorbeeld Italië, wel even een bergpas meepikken want hier voelt de auto zich echt thuis. De auto zal je belonen als een jonge hond die je zijn riem af doet: alle emoties en spanningen komen tot uitbarsting totdat je hem weer een brokje voor houdt. Bij de GTA zal dat dan waarschijnlijk een benzinepomp moeten zijn.

We kunnen mooie foto’s maken, wellicht nog beter een video, maar het echte overbrengen van emotie lukt alleen wanneer u de gelegenheid, of eigenlijk het geluk hebt, om een auto als deze zojuist binnengekomen GTA in het echt te bekijken en te rijden. Natuurlijk schept het rijden ons ook enorm voldoening, maar misschien is de kick van het vinden van zo’n bijzondere auto voor ons als liefhebber en handelaar nog groter. Voor onszelf, maar vooral om een nieuwe eigenaar er een enorm plezier mee te doen. Een nieuwe eigenaar die een compacte, veel vermogen leverende, perfect onderhouden, bijzondere een waardevaste Alfa zoekt, heeft hem bij deze gevonden.

Want afkomstig uit Zweden, waar het een van de slechts 13 stuks geleverde 147 GTA’s was, rechtstreeks uit de verwarmde garage van de derde eigenaar, subliem onderhouden, van bouwjaar 2005 en slechts 87.700 op de teller, volledig in, Azzurro Gabbiano genoemde, eerste lak, en recentelijk voorzien van nieuwe distributie
